I recently found out a Wellness Center not to far away acquired a Bod Pod, so I scheduled an appointment. It would seem I am shorter and fatter than I realized. . Not having measured my height in ages, I've always been sure I was just under 6'00". I am only 5'11", no half, no quarter. I am 5'11". . Bodyfat measured today was 21% Stats are as follows. Ht. 5'11" Wt. 170.8 Fat mass 35.9 lbs Fat free mass 134.9 Body Volume 73.8 L Body Density 1.05 Kg/L Thoracic Gas Volume 4.144 L Test Profile . Density model = Brozek . Thoracic Gas Volume model = predicted Apparently the Brozek model is for the athletic population, to which the woman testing me said "but that just makes you fat for an athlete". I don't have current pics as my camera died, but this photo was taken just 5 weeks ago. Le sigh......
Rough day at the wellness center. Well, if you're 20% then I'm 30%. I would have pegged you more than a few points lower than that. Negged for using "wellness center."
Rough day at the wellness center. It seemed odd to me as well. It definitely took me by surprise. Eye opener for sure. When there are only 2 of these machines in the state... I won't get too picky, but I understand
Rough day at the wellness center. 21% seems a bit suspect man...... Without seeing your legs or back, I'd say 16% at the most. Does hydration come into play with these tests?
Rough day at the wellness center. Damn. I may be wrong, but it seems like they may be intentionally skewing the results for more business. You very well may be 5'11", but you are definitely not 21% BF.
Rough day at the wellness center. I'm going to have to do some research. I have been bulking for about 6 weeks now, and am on a surplus, so excess retention from the bulk may play into it. Honestly everything is in proportion. Legs are 23 inches (waist is 30.5). Calves are small as well at only 14.5 inches.
Rough day at the wellness center. When Bod Pod testing first became widely available, I thought it was a great idea. Other than hydrostatic testing (the at-the-time Gold standard), here was now available an easily-administered, economical method to accurately measure body fat % for those who felt the need to know a number. And then a few of my journal friends on this site got themselves Bod Podded, and to a man, all the results were way off the mark. One guy, in particular, who easily looked to be sub-10% was tested at 17%. After that, I quit recommending that method, and no longer pay it any mind. And not surprisingly, Bod Pod these days gets mentioned less and less on this site. Apparently, it's lack of accuracy has gotten around.
Rough day at the wellness center. No way your 21%. I use the calculator over at Drapers site to track mine. Most accurate one I've found. http://www.davedraper.com/bodyfat-calculation.html (use the excel document)
Rough day at the wellness center. Oh, no! How horrible, you're 5'11"! Your body fat appears to be lower than 21%. But if you plan on tracking progression with other Bod Pod tests I say go by that figure. Are you going to use it to modify your diet and training, or are you happy enough with your results in those areas to continue with your current plan?
