Ever since I stated trying to cut weight, I can seem to keep up with any routine. I always postpone the routine or leave it midway to attend to something else. How can I keep to my routine up to the end. I do the routine on my own at home.
I'm afraid I don't have an answer to this, I'm in the same boat as you. Hopefully we can both find a solution from another member. Personally I always say to myself "ah lets do it tomorrow".
I workout from home too, most often. What I do is watch TV or watch a movie while I workout. An hour goes by fast that way. But also, working out and keeping a routine takes a lot of dedication. That's why most people don't look like Phil Heath. But yeah, after awhile your routine will become just that - a routine. It will just become a natural part of your day, like sleeping or eating. It gets easier to maintain the longer you keep at it.
Well, exercise plays a minimal role in weight control. Weight loss is all about nutrition, what you eat. The easiest means of losing fat is carbohydrate restriction. Restrict your carbohydrate consumption to 50g per day or less and you should lose weight.
I do know that I tend to get more of my workout done when I bring my weights into the house and do my routine in the front room rather in my home gym, which is a converted shed. Maybe I should set up an old TV in the shed.
I do enjoy my workout sessions and aim to hit three a week. Most weeks I succeed. I will admit that sometimes my energy level is a bit low and I have to just simply kick my ass to get in gear. "Geez just get started you lazy . . " I tell myself. "If you have to just make it a short session." But my sessions are usually 40 to 50 minutes, and once I get started, I do my full workout. Oh yeah I should add that I am a full fledged senior and well that might be part of not having all the energy I once did. Yes I am able to stick with my routine but sometimes I have to yell at myself to get started. Ryder13
I used to have the same problem- I would start a new routine, stick to it for a week or 2, and then before I knew it my weights were gathering cobwebs again. This time I'm much more focused on the task at hand, I think what helped me was actually keeping tabs of my progress for each exercise. I keep track of reps, sets and weight, so I could try to beat my previous logs as additional motivation. That's really what it comes down to. So long as you're self-motivated you'll be able to stick to it without a problem. I'm only a few weeks in right now though, so hopefully I can keep it up.
They key to weight loss is to restrict carbohydrate consumption. Exercise helps burn fat, especially high intensity exercise, but the primary factor in weight loss is nutrition. Try restriction your carbohydrates to 50g or less and see what happens.
After reading your post I sort of found the answer to this overall question. I feel that most people get bored or lazy of working out so they end up saying "I'll have this cake now and I'll work out tomorrow" which we all know how this ends. I think that you should make a to do list and tell yourself you have to do it NOW and until you finish your workout you can't continue on to your next task in the day. It is all about setting priorities and I feel that the health priority is one of the most important ones.
To keep me concentrated, I keep my eye on the prize, and keep thinking about why I'm doing all of this in the first place. It's a goal that gets you started, and perseverance/motivation that keeps you going. A lot of the times my friends go out to parties and/or social gatherings, while I would be at the gym working hard. I guess it all depends on how bad you want it. Do you REALLY want to cut weight? Or just kinda cut weight?
