Is it good to drink them after workouts and before bed? That is currently what I do and some people tell me that is a good thing and then others tell me it isn't.

In the morning and after a workout are the most important times to drink a protein shake. But yeah, the trick to gaining muscle is to constantly be feeding your body. So in the morning, before a workout, at night. It's all good.

Okay so I have drunk my amount for this morning and will continue throughout the day. I will also have to work on eating throughout the day too. No snacks though, I am going to have to try to eat foods with substance.

Well, you don't actually need protein shakes. Whole food is always a better option than highly processed protein powder. Eating a protein-rich meal after your workout will provide you with the protein you need to repair and grow.

Many people say food is better than the shakes. I find it that the shakes are convenient for me to just make and consume on the go, rather than cook a meal when I'm in a rush.

I'm starting on the shakes on Monday so I'm glad I saw this, would 3 times a day be too much to take them?

I would say to start with 2 a day to see how your body reacts to it. If you feel it's all good, try 3. One in the morning, after a workout and in the evening.

Thing is with the shakes is to watch the calories, if you're keeping tabs in your intake be weary of 3+ shakes a day as some shakes can have 300kcal + per serving (scoop).

I take in a whey shake in the morning, another one post workout, and a casein shake before bed! Its not a bad thing.

I can't stomach whole foods after a workout. You are supposed to get some protein in you about 20 to 30 mins after a workout and there's no way I could eat a meal that soon after.

Whole food is better for sure but there are many reasons why protein supplements are essential if you are serious about training. I don't know any bodybuilder that doesn't use protein supplements.
