So, I'm trying to lose weight and I know I have to cut carbs, from past experience. I've heard that taking short fasts, such as eating breakfast and fasting until the following morning, once a week can help spur weight loss.

      Is this true?

      Is this safe?

      Perhaps.

This shouldn't really be the way for anyone to lose weight though, might want to try to manage daily calorie and maconutrient intake instead.

I can assure you it is safe and very good for you in terms of fat loss and health benefits.

An easier way to fast is by skipping breakfast. That way you are extending the natural overnight fast during sleep to around 16-hours.

I hadn't thought of that! That might work better because I am not particularly hungry in the mornings.

What are maconutrients? How do I manage them?

I have restricted calories in the past but it seems to make me really ravenously hungry, lol. When I cut back on carbs I seem to eat less naturally, without hunger.

I have done this before, and managed to lose weight but it is not a good idea nor is it healthy. As soon as my little fasting experience was over, and I decided to eat small portion meals--I gained the weight back that I recently lost. So, I would suggest you adhere to a different plan that isn't going to put the weight back on when you decide to eat regularly. Trust me, when you step on that weight scale and see that you have gained the weight back, you will be disappointed just as I was.

Okay. I will think about it and if I try it out and it works good for me, I will make a post about it. Thanks for the advice, everyone!

They call this Intermediate Fasting and it's very popular these days. I personally don't know a lot about it but I have a few friends that swear by it for cutting weight before summer. I've been playing on looking into this so I guess I'll monitor this thread and post any finding in the next few days.

It is of course safe but I would rely on this method to lose weight.
It is just a short term effect and it might even backfire on your or catch up with you down the road. whenever you are limiting your body food it makes your body crave even more so therefore when you get off this fast you might eat even more food than you did before the fast. I would just recommend making your portion size smaller everyday instead of picking a day every week to not eat. It is just not healthy and not beneficial to your health at all.

I really don't know if it is safe. I just don't think I personally can handle fasting and would go that route. If I deprive myself too much I can fall into nasty binge cycles. Therefore, I personally need to eat my staple 3 meals a day.
