First off, do you consider hoola hooping a form of exercise and would you recommend this form of exercise to anyone?

I personally know a few people who still like to hoola hoop. They find it very fun and it helps of course tighten up their stomach area. They bought a special hoola hoop that is the heavier kind with dents in it..which is making me want to give it a try.

I always hoola hooped when I was a child but I think that now it might be a new form of a workout for me to lose weight.

Yes, I actually consider this an exercise because it raises the heart rate; anything that does this is a work out in my eyes. Now that you have mentioned it, I don't that I have thought of hoola hooping. I think that it is a fun and easy way to work out; anything that is fun I don't have an issue with trying out. I think I may go to the store and purchase one. It can also be good for the abs if you hoola hoop with intensity. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! :-D

It is a form of exercise. I would put it in the low-level activity category, of which you need to do lots of every day.

I don't think it would be very good for losing weight, though.

While technically it is exercise, I don't think it is in any way effective. You should stick to regular cardio, if you're doing it for effect, although if you're doing it just for fun, be my guest, might as well make a video, post it on the forum. Let us enjoy. lol

I've seen a woman hoopla hooping at my gym a couple of years ago. I've hoola hooped before when I was younger but was never good at it. I definitely consider it an exercise.

I think it is exercise. It's fun but I haven't done it in years. It's a good idea and I think it would burn some calories if done on a regular basis. Now, where is my jump-rope? I'm feeling like a kid again, suddenly, lol! :p

Now that you mention jumping rope I think it's an even better way to lose weight.
I remember that I used to have such a hard time jumping at least 39 times and I was even in good shape when I was a kid. Jumping rope should definitely be one of the most effective ways to increase your heart rate.

Indeed it is, jumping rope is an extremely efficient exercise. It works really well for cardio, it improves your agility, tact and definitely strengthens your calves. Tons of boxers skip rope for agility and endurance, it's one of the best exercises for a fighting sport enthusiast.

My mom and sister both use the slightly weighted hula hoops and they swear by them. The hoop is thicker with bumps on the inside, its hard to explain. Its kinda fun, I did like 10 minutes of it when they first got them and I really felt it in my abs and lower back the next day. If you like hula hooping and know you can stick to doing it for a few minutes a day get one for sure. Personally I don't think I would use one very often unless some study came out about it being amazing for your core.
