      I don't see him jumping into a "I Bench XXXlbs on bench press" thread. So it isn't any reason to care. If he gets into an argument about his 1RM and then posts a video of him using partial ROM, it'll be an issue.

      Dumbbell Bench press is still a bench press. Smith Machine bench press is still a bench press. Partial bench press is still a bench press.

      Smith bench is smith bench
      Partial bench is partial bench

      We used accurate descriptors for a reason. We don't just call everything a lift, even though they are

      Bench press is a type of movement. Not a specific movement.

      It isn't an accurate descriptor of anything. Is it with a barbell, dumbbell flat, incline, decline?

      back to the topic? i dont really care about the legitimacy of a partial or db bench press vs a full ROM bb bench press. that wasnt the topic. the topic is- is my form acceptable? and, what can i do to improve my weak spot.

      Your form is acceptable if that is the ROM you care to work. Not if you're trying to claim that poundage as your maxes.

      I told you how to improve it. Practice it. Just like any other thing you do in life. The more you do something the better you will (or should) get. Why do you think this is any different?

      This means you are weak off your chest. Drop the weight down and touch your chest. This is like saying is it ok to quarter squat everything because I struggle out of the hole. Address the problem and solve it instead of avoiding it.

      I dont see how 2 inches is going to make a difference when its just you and the bar trying to get stronger/ bigger.

      However the reason you should touch your chest is so you know you did a full rep. When your on your 5th rep, 5th set and ready to fail, your not a good source of how close you are tp your chest. Its hard to judge exactly where you are under to stress of your 5rm. Very easy to cheat yourself.

      Touch your chest so you can focus on exploding through that last rep rather than if your close enough to count it as a rep.
