I would like and would be open to people giving advice. Occasionally I ask one of the regulars for advice if I'm unsure of what I'm doing.

I wouldn't give advice though. It seems everyone wants to do stuff their own way. My own gym partners practically tell me to **** off if I try to help them out.

the few times i have been given advice by strangers have all be extremely helpful, actually. but i don't give others advice unless they're doing something that looks like could cause an injury.

      Stats: 5'11", 168 lbs

I suspect most people would have that reaction.

Bit harsh maybe. He didn't claim to be an expert. In fact, he pretty much claimed the opposite

lol@ at you saying that people are avoiding the embarrassment of you correcting them.

It's not a fine line between not knowing how to lift, and being able to help any particular person. Don't just suspect you're on the other side of a fence all of the sudden.
-Any new exercise form will hit the muscle in a different way, and add a new "stress".

-Big people be big. They also tend to have an easier ability to lift properly in regards to the form that you don't see. That stuff they usually can't teach you anyway. Also, like I said, there is a large grey area between not knowing how to lift, and telling any particular person how they should lift. There's no silver bullet that fixes all bad lifting forms.

-I've never gotten stopped in my workout to be given advice. The only time I did was someone telling me to have a wider stance in my squat with toes pointed out. Don't lift like an idiot, and other idiots won't be attracted to your bad form. I'm always improving my form too. Don't get me wrong.

I glossed over the "wouldn't give advice" part somehow and only consciously saw the part about workout partners ignoring him

But it is what it is

this. as much as i wanted to correct some of the tards in the gym i just went on with my workout without saying a word. the only time i have ever really said anything is if someone asks me for advice or if they are doing something not only dangerous to them but the surrounding people(i have only ran across 2 situations like this and both times it was someone using a crossfit workout)

I'm not claiming that I am qualified to advise everyone on everything. The guy I did advise was doing incline flys and allowing the weights to come down not nearly enough to pull on the chest. I don't think a huge amount of expertise was needed to see that he wasn't doing the exercise properly. In retrospect I should have probably just let him continue doing what he was doing. As people have said, if he really wanted advise he would have gotten it from somewhere. Haven't offered any since.
