Here is a small basic list of important things that i would advise anyone who is looking to join a gym and start training to take look at.

      Get professional advice

Dont assume that the big guy in the gym knows it all and start following how he trains. Just because he is big doesn't mean he knows what hes doing. Get a Personal Trainer to set you a programme.

      Set goals.

Dont just go to the gym hoping your body will just one day decide to look like a pro athletes. Track what your doing and monitor it.

      Dont rely on supplements.

Dont underestimate how important real food is. Taking a protein shake everyday is not going to turn you into muscular athlete overnight.

      Dont rely on training partners.

Training partners come and go. Dont rely on them. There will always be someone in your gym that can spot you.

      Dont keep weighing yourself.

Ok so you want to get bigger? From personal expierience i can tell you im lighter now than i have been in years and yet my muscles measure more. Don't get disheartened by constantly weighing yourself to see if you are gaining. Look in the mirror, thats the true you.

      Dont train every day.

You recover when you rest. Training every day is not going to get you to your goals quiker, it will make tired and likely to give up.

      Do not give up.

Consistency is such an important factor in this list. It will take time so keep going.

      Enjoy your training.

Remember this is a lifestyle so enjoy it.
      Good luck.

This list is perfect for beginners like myself and answers many of the "simple" questions I often ask myself.

I have tried exercise and light weights in the past but unfortunately I gave myself long-term goals which were not achievable in the short term. As a consequence I lost motivation and gave up. I think I will now try again giving myself better and more achievable short-term gains.
