Okay, so my goals are to gain cardiovascular strength and overall coordination, better muscle strength and improved balance. I'm trying to learn the tango and I love it but my lack of stamina is holding me back.

I'm overweight and I am working on that by reducing carbs and watching portions, mainly.

But, what I want to know is how should I start building cardiovascular strength, starting from such a very poor condition?

      What should I start with?

I get winded after 5 minutes of slow dancing! Should I keep going? How do I know how much to push myself?

How long does it take to build some stamina?

      Cardiovascular strength, what is that?

Aim to walk 10,000 steps per day, keep active and don't sit on your chair for too long. Combine lots of low-level activity with bursts of high intensity exercise like sprinting and weight training. This will improve your strength and overall fitness.

By cardiovascular strength, I meant stamina or the ability to engage in physical activity for a prolonged period.

I understand all you've said except the part about 10,000 steps per day. How do you count them?

I would also like to recommend to get an aerobic step and I would just step up and down on it if you don't like in a building or have access to any steps.
I would recommend to turn on some music in the beginning and I would continuously step up and down for at least 30 minutes as a starter.
Here is a good example of what I am talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-2DWoSlbag

If you really like dancing, why not dance as much as possible? Push yourself hard but take breaks. I would suggest going for walks with light jogging mixed in try to add time every single time you go out. Another option is the 'couch to 5k' running plan, just google it and follow it. In like 3 months you should be able to move for 30+ minutes straight! Good luck, hope this helped.
