I was at the gym on Monday and I heard two guys having a discussion about squats and deadlifts. The argument seemed to be over the fact that the shorter of the two friends was able to lift more weight on squats then the taller guy. The reason being (according to the taller guy) that the shorter guy had smaller legs and so had to lift the weight over a smaller distance and due to the taller guys longer legs making the weight more difficult to lift. Was the tall guy just trying to make an excuse for being a pussy or did he have a point. Please discuss....
Tall guy & Short guy squat / deadlift debate Applies to almost any exercises imo.. Look at DB Chest press, you see little manlets doing it and there range of motion from top to chest is about 3 inches!!
Tall guy & Short guy squat / deadlift debate i think shorter guys have an advantage over taller guys tbh
Tall guy & Short guy squat / deadlift debate I'm 6 foot 6 myself and personally don't use the height excuse, I just accept the fact I'm weak as ****. Whenever people do spout that being taller is a disadvantage strength wise, I always just think of most of the Worlds strongest man competitors. A lot of them are bloody tall, and they definitely aren't weak
Tall guy & Short guy squat / deadlift debate Power to weight ratio comes into play. I'm only 5'5 but lift the same or heavier than a lot of guys I know, and they weigh 2-3stone heavier.
Tall guy & Short guy squat / deadlift debate Kind of true but right now the Worlds strongest man who deadlift over 400kg "brain Shaw" is around 6ft 8" tall, then British strong man Terry Hollands is 6ft 6" he is a serious squater and deadlifter.
Tall guy & Short guy squat / deadlift debate IMO if you're natural, shorter guys have more benefit.. as there's only so much mass you can naturally put on, and that mass will fill a smaller frame better and give a greater power to weight.. But once gear/meds is involved, big frame anyday, as more area to pack muscle on to (hence more muscle can be added!) Would hate to be a manlet lol.
Tall guy & Short guy squat / deadlift debate Surely muscle length comes into play with this? I'm short and therefore my muscles are shorter... so how does it compare?
Tall guy & Short guy squat / deadlift debate Surely a taller person would have a longer muscle which would contain more muscle fibers, which in turn would enable them to infact lift more weight ?
