Since the beginning of this year, I decided to be walking every morning and evening. I do this by walking my kid to school in the morning and picking her up after school. She is a big girl and can take herself to school but I accompany her for exercise. In total I do like 5 kilometers and I can see the fruits of my efforts. Is there anyone else here who walks for exercise and can see the results.
I used to play football and when I stopped I ballooned, I started walking a couple of miles every day and I have noticed the difference, so much in fact that I'm about to progress to running as I want to enter a 10k race at some point. Well done on your improvement.
Walking is great for the beginners. It improves your stamina a lot. After some time, when you feel more confident, you can start running, riding a bike and other similar excercises.
Walking is a great form of exercise and we should all do more of it. Walking is the original mode of transport, our hunter-gatherer ancestors didn't have cars, trains or bikes, they used their feet. The role exercise plays in weight loss is exaggerated but you can burn a few hundred calories through walking.
I usually walk from my house up to the park each morning on weekends. I do it with a partner so it won't feel boring or as tedious, but its great exercise and also very refreshing. After walking to the park, we jog back to our houses and then eat breakfast, for me this is the way how I start the weekends
Power walking is a great form of exercise for anybody. I walk about 2-3 miles a day with an weight vest and ankle weights on. It did wonders for my weight and my stamina. I do a little lite jogging also but not to much.
Walking isn't really a great exercise at all imo. It doesn't get your heart rate up. If you are older or have injuries that prevent you from running or jogging it might be worth while but personally I would go for something that gets the heart pumping.
I personally love walking for exercise. I find running quite hard on the body and actually prefer to walk at the highest level of intensity. Speed-walking at various inclines for 45 to 55 minutes does get up my heart rate up and I'm sweating by the end of it. My treadmill has a level called the golf course, which automatically incorporates intervals at the highest incline possible. So I absolutely think it can be an effective workout, but you do need to make it challenging.
Me. I make it a point to work to and from work. It is a 40 minute walk times two, around 10 kilometers a day. When I took the pause from training due to loads of work, this is what helped me from gaining weight.
