There is no scientifically valid disadvantage to taking in a little more protein, so why not do it if it could be the difference between gaining 20lbs muscle over a period of time or 21lbs? ANd I don;t think protein is a "superior" macronutrient in any way. That would be ridiculous as all macros are very important and none is more important than another. Personally I get in way more carbs than protein.
