  • Why is my bench 1RM so much higher than my other RM's?

      My 1RM on bench is 230.
      My 3RM is about 185.
      My 5RM is about 175.

      Why are these proportions so ****ed up? Serious.

      That is weird

      For me:
      1RM is 230
      3RM is 210
      5RM is 200

      Are you benching unassisted for your 1RM? If not your spotter may be assisting too much and you're not actually pressing 230.

      I don't believe this for one second.
      Your true 3rm is not 185 then. Or your true 1rm is not 230.

      It's just how it is...

      My 1RM deadlift is 510

      My 3RM deadlift is between 350 and 360

      But somehow I can rep 315 for over 20 reps

      My bench is even worse of a difference; 225 for 3 but...155 for 10. My arm span is 7' so I attribute it to that. It all depends on how your leverage is, how the weight hits the muscle, muscle condition etc. What is the big deal?

      No assistance.
      I wish I had that.
      I've never gone all out on repping. On my climb up to 230 today I could only get 185x3, possibly 1 or 2 more reps if I prepped for it with my previous sets. I tend to get a skinnier grip when I'm maxing out though.

      Hey OP I'm the same way, my bench press is a lot better (mass/strength ratio) than any other routine. It could be genetics, but most likely you work a lot of bench, or neglect certain other exercises.

      It's not that my bench is out of whack from my other lifts. It's that the proportion of the reps I can do are out of whack. Check OP.

      How deep red are you?

      If you're changing your grip as you lift higher weights, you're shifting the workout from your shoulders to your triceps and that may contribute to why your lifting more. Try to keep your grip the same when you're benching and see if that changes your lower weight RMs

      3 RM is 187.
      1 RM is 210.

      Pretty much 1 RM calc accurate. Your totals are weird.
