Going to the gym is one of the highlights of my day. I usually have my workouts for the week pre planned and on a daily basis i think about the workout i wil be doing the day after to focus on what exercises i will be doing. Sometimes the exercises might change as do the reps and sets but the basic outline of the workout will stay the same.

I see time after time some people that walk into the gym with pre workout drinks in hand and look around clearly thinking what should i do? Then they will walk over to the bench press do a warm up set with the bar then do a heavy set of 2 reps, then walk over to the treadmill do a 3 minute jog while texting there buddies teling them they just smashed bench press at the gym.
Then they get off the treadmill look around then think ahh i will do some sit ups. Whats next as there doing there 20 reps, got it, do some arms! Few sets later and a quick flex in the mirror its time see if i can still bench what i did a minute ago! No they have changed there mind back to the treadmill!
5 minutes later of a half jog half walk workout done! Wait! They didn't drink there pre workout! Good they didnt need it! Oh wait hes just realised and chugged it down anyway. And hes gone out the door.

Now we all know someone who trains like this, now let me say any form of exercise is better that none but peope trainng like this are very unlikely to get the results they think they will.

So what im saying is before you go to the gym you need to know why you are there.
      Are you,
      A bodybuilder
      Fitness trainer
      Crossfitter
      Boxer
      Losing weight
Or just generally trying to get fit.

Figure out why you go to the gym, set your plan of attack and go into the gym full of confidence and do it! You are more likely to succeed with your goals you have that way!
      Dont be 'that guy'.
      Good luck.

I have to say I have been this guy in years gone by! I have not really tried a new fitness program for many years but will certainly be doing so from now on. I did laugh at your description of people going to different pieces of equipment on a random basis and then thinking they have “done their bit” lol

Initially losing weight will be my goal then I want to tone up and remain healthy.

I will focus more on individual machines as opposed to jumping between many different machines in one training session. That way I should be able to focus on particular areas of my body and eventually I should reduce my fat content and tone my body.
