The Standing Plate Twist is a perfect way in which to strengthen and stretch your external oblique muscles. These are situated to the left and right of your abs. This is an extremely simple exercise but very quickly you will begin to feel the stretching of the external oblique muscles. For this exercise you will require a weight plate which is a comfortable weight for you. All you do is hold the weight plate at forearm length outwards from the centre of your chest. Then simply twist the top half of your torso to the left and then to the right, ensuring your standing feet do not move. The twisting movement full utilises your external oblique muscles – often neglected in favour of abdominal exercises.
