One of the first things I was told decades ago in law school in California was:

The lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client.

Now, considering you're not even a lawyer ...

don't do it mate-i know of a few guys who ended up making themselves not only look like complete d1ckheads but ended up getting dealt with harsher-they see it as you taking the pi$$ out of them-i'd leave it to the experts

That's a good question. I've been in an English, Scottish, Greek and Cypriot court, but I've only ever seen someone acting pro se in a Scottish Justice of the Peace. I'd ask your associate, it would be worth the look on his face alone! :-D

What are you being charged with? I wouldn't sack the associate, I'd ask for a continuance, depending on the severity of the charge and the time in which your main council informed you of his inability to attend, the judge will probably allow for it if the associate also claims to not be suitably prepared as a result of the main council's timing.

Keep in mind what Abe Lincoln once said "a man who represents himself has a fool for a client".

Definitely let the lawyer do it. It will bite you in the ass.

I'm glad I'm 3 years into my law degree, seems like anyone can do my future job, at a days notice?

Mate, please...leave it to the experts. You might think it's clear cut, but what happens if the judge throws something at you? You really got anything like a grasp of the core concepts of your charge?
