I love it when people start threads asking for advice then refute every reasonable suggestion they get.

      owait....no I don't.

I'm not refuting sir, I'm just saying why I can't give him some of the gifts. I'm genuinely asking for your help. This is the last birthday we're celebrating as a family before I move away in 3 months. I want to get him something memorable as a way of thanking him for raising me and being a good father.

Take an old picture of the two of you and get it framed with a little engraved brass plaque saying "thank you for raising me and being a good father", then take him out for a nice steak dinner somewhere and give it to him.

At our age we pretty much have all the material stuff we want/need.

We can safely assume the answer to the bolded is no or this young man wouldn't be here today...

      Ridiculous!

Damn kids kicking balls into crabby old bastards yards never ends well.

Gentlemen, please help me buy a gift for my dads birthday.

I always get people gift baskets that I assemble. You could get them something thoughtless but no one wants or needs that.

      Here is what I do.

i first make a theme. Say for example your dad like golf. i will assemble a basket that has to do with golf stuff.

For starters he will need the actual basket. Easy, the basket you get range balls in at the golf course or something like that would be perfect.

Now you need some stuff to put in it. of course he can use the basket as well so thats part of the gift.

now when you go shopping you are looking for golf related stuff instead of aimlessly loking for what you think he might like.

Maybe a new glove, some balls, tees. thats sort of stuff. Dont forget that its always nice to have a nip on the links so maybe a flask as well would be nice. he can fill it with his own booze.

So now you havent spent a ton of money and you have some fun stuff.

Get some of that easter basklet grass and put it in the basket.

Now wrap up all the stuff individually so he will now have a bunch of stuff to open.

Toss in some candy and doo dads like that and you cant miss with this.

of course it doesnt need to be golf, thats just an example.

i get everyone gifts like this and have been doing it for years and they 100% of the time love it.

Or just get him a thoughtless gift card that he will end up giving to your sister next month.
