Related to self image- body scars At 18, when working in an auto shop, I had a split-rim wheel explode from the bottom. The safety cage failed. The air rushing out sent the tire and wheel up to the ceiling like a rocket, after hitting me in the face on the way up. The tire hit me and split me like a boxer from my forehead across my nose. Of course broke my nose badly. Lifted me up and threw me 10 feet in the air, blood spraying everywhere. When the paramedics arrived, I was laying in a pool of blood larger than my extremities and they thought I was a goner. Later, after being sown up (by a plastic surgeon no less) the Dr. told me that if the wheel had hit me instead of the tire, it would have instantly caved my head in. Now I have a scar running right between my eyes and my nose is a bit crooked. All in all, pretty damn lucky! I really don't obsess about it, though. Lots of bigger things to worry about and plenty to be thankful for.
